ABOUT THE SHOW
A world-premiere for Hobart, First Steps: An Irish Journey is a show like no other. Written and produced entirely in Hobart, First Steps: An Irish Journey unites the sights, sounds and rhythms of Ireland in a unique, energetic and heart-warming performance that will leave your toes twinkling and your eyes sparkling.
Starring the very best of Tasmania's young traditional Irish music and dance talent, First Steps: An Irish Journey follows Maggie, a young girl whose first day at dance class sparks a passion that leads to a life-long journey of friendship, adventure, drama, disaster and love.
Combining uplifting, original songs with old favourites, innovative choreography and design, incredible, inspiring rhythms and a healthy dose of genuine, family-friendly fun, First Steps: An Irish Journey promises a magical, unforgettably Irish entertainment experience in an intimate, Covid-safe setting.
First Steps: An Irish Journey is the brainchild of dance teacher and adjudicator, Bronwyn Anne Kelly ADRCG, and stars dancers from her Irish Dance school, Scoil Rince Ni Kelly, located in Hobart.

SCOIL RINCE NI KELLY
Scoil Rince Ni Kelly (or Kelly's Irish Dance School) is Hobart's only school of Irish Dancing.
Formerly the Lahl School of Irish Dancing, the school was taken over in 2011 by Bronwyn Anne Kelly ADCRG. Although we are one of the smallest and most geographically-isolated Irish Dance schools in Australia, we have enjoyed plenty of successes. In 2019, three of our dancers qualified for the prestigious 2020 Irish Dancing World Championships, with several others achieving top placings in both national and international competitions in team and solo disciplines.
In February 2022, the School hopes to take a team of high performance dancers to Ireland to compete at the 2022 All Ireland Championships. With little to no funding available for Irish Dancers, First Steps: In Irish Journey was conceived as an ideal way to raise funds for the trip, while at the same time promoting the dance school and increasing awareness in Hobart of the vibrant culture and heritage of Ireland.
Irish Dancing is an extremely athletic, energetic and technical dance sport, with athletes training four to five times a week or more, for three or more hours at a time, while also expecting to put in a considerable amount of hours on their strength, flexibility and fitness at home.
Scoil Rince Ni Kelly is dedicated to fitness, fun and friendship in a truly welcoming and supportive environment. Our dancers are never just numbers in a class - they are valued, respected and appreciated members of our wonderful dance school family.
As well as Irish Dancing, Scoil Rince Ni Kelly teaches children confidence, self-determination, drive, a dedicated and real-life work ethic...and now theatre and stage craft, as the children are heavily involved with the choreography and stage production elements of First Steps: An Irish Journey.
